Through a variety of services, our school counselors work with students to do so much more than just help them figure out what they want to be when they grow up. Counselors work closely with students, their parents and teachers to support students academically, socially and emotionally so that they can reach their full potential in school and in their careers long after graduation.

Below, please explore some of the services that we provide to students and their families. Although these lists are not inclusive of everything that our counselors do, parents and students should always feel welcome to contact their counselor anytime they need help.

Career Development

  • Collaborating with colleges, trade schools and area employers to create college and career awareness programs and services.
  • Working closely with administrators, teachers, students and parents to schedule students in appropriate classes for their abilities and career goals.
  • Identifying opportunities and develop individualized plans for students to achieve their goals.

Academic Support

  • Can help identify barriers to learning and refer students and their parents to the appropriate resources, services and testing when they are struggling in school.
  • Develop and write 504 Plans for students with documented disabilities as determined by the school team.
  • Welcome new students and their families to the school district by providing tours, information and an overview of student services.
  • Advocate for each student's success.

Social/Emotional Support

  • Offer short-term individual or small group counseling for students in need, or refer families to the appropriate community resources or to outpatient counseling depending on the need.
  • Conduct risk screenings to help support students who demonstrate risk of suicide or self harm.
  • Strengthen the school's culture by creating a safe and nurturing environment through social and emotional learning, anti-bullying and digital citizenship lessons.
  • Offer self-regulation, coping, conflict resolution and relationship management skills to students in need.
  • Create an inclusive and equitable environment within the school for all students to feel welcome and protected.
  • Guide students and their parents through the district's Student Assistance Program, which helps students who are dealing with substance abuse, depression, behavior problems or other emotionally-traumatic events that may inhibit their ability to learn and be well adjusted at school.
