Bullying

Exeter Township School District is committed to provide all students with a safe, healthy and welcoming learning environment. Our programs, policies and interventions are aligned to both prevent and provide support to students going through difficult situations while in school. It is our expectation that all Eagles treat each other with kindness and respect.

    • Ask your kids about school. Learn about their friends and their behavior. Listen for signs or signals that someone may be treating your child unkindly--or your child may be treating someone unkindly.
    • Teach your kids how to recognize bullying behavior and how to report it if it's happening to them or to others.
    • If you feel your child is not treating others with kindness, don't be afraid to talk to your child about his or her behavior. If you feel your child is verging on bullying behavior, contact his or her counselor to discuss your concerns.
    • Teach your kids that not all kids want to be friends with everyone--and that's OK. Teach your kids that everyone has differences--and that's OK, too.
    • Encourage your kids to find activities, hobbies or sports they love they to do. Finding friends with similar interests can help kids find like-minded friends who will treat them kindly and protect them from bullying behaviors.
    • Model kindness at home. Treat others with respect and kindness and your kids will follow.

It's important that parents address their child's behavior early to prevent violent and risky behavior as their child matures. According to StopBullying, kids who bully others are more likely to:

    • Abuse alcohol and other drugs in adolescence and as adults
    • Get into fights, vandalize property and drop out of school
    • Engage in early sexual activity
    • Have criminal convictions and traffic citations as adults
    • Be abusive toward their romantic partners, spouses or children as adults.

If you are experiencing bullying…

Schools cannot help students who are experiencing bullying, harassment or hate when students do not report incidents. Please take steps to report incidents that are happening to you or others by contacting your school's principal, counselor or a trusted teacher. You can find a list of contact information on our website under our staff directory. Should you wish to report incidents anonymously, parents and students can also use the Safe2Say reporting system.
