Audio and Video Production

Advisor: Mr. Adams & Mr. Shucker
Meets: After school; one to three times a week

Description: Our award-winning Audio and Video Production crew participates in the annual "What's So Cool About Manufacturing?" video competition. Crew members will work with a local manufacturer to plan and produce an informative video. AaVP meets a minimum of once a week. Meetings are generally after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Chamber Strings

Advisor: Mr. Albrycht
Meets: Weekly

Description: Select string ensemble, made up of students from 7th and 8th grade orchestra.

Envirothon

Advisors: Mrs. Hess and Mrs. Brenner
Meets: Twice a month from December to May
Any fees other than district Activity Fee? No
Description: The Envirothon is a fun, academic challenge event that teaches students practical knowledge and application of environmental topics. Student spend months studying and learning about different environmental topics. As a team, students will develop creative solutions to environmental problems. They may be asked to measure a tree, identify soil characteristics, list functions of a wetland, or distinguish the call of a bird. At the day-long Envirothon, students compete using their knowledge in the following topic areas: forestry, aquatics, soil, and wildlife.  Team answers are evaluated by practicing environmental professionals. Students develop study skills, practice effective teamwork, and learn natural resource management and ecology by participating in the Envirothon.  At the same time, they gain valuable exposure to a range of disciplines and potential career paths while practicing environmental stewardship.

Exeter Express Newspaper

Advisor: Mrs. Burkhart
Meets: Once a month after school

Description: The Exeter Express Newspaper club is a club designed to publish a series of newspapers for the junior high students, faculty, and parents. Students can take part in writing articles, taking photos, polling students, designing charts/graphs, creating cartoons, puzzles, and contests. Students can also help edit and create the final newspaper using Lucid Press as the publication tool to create the newspaper.  

Honors Choir

Advisor: Mrs. Crotty
Meets: About 1-2 times a week after school
Any fees other than district Activity Fee? Travel expenses
Description: Honors Choir is a select group of chorus members who learn additional music and have more performances in the community.

 

Math Counts

Advisor: Mrs. Topper
Meets: Weekly on Wednesdays after school
Any fees other than district Activity Fee? No
Description: Students in Mathcounts work on higher level, application problems in preparation for the county competition that takes place in February each year.

Musical

Advisor: Mrs. Crotty, Mr. Adams, Ms. Malanios and Mr. Luckenbill
Meets: Mondays-Thursdays after school plus a few Saturdays prior to the musical.

Description: Students work to put on a theatrical production for the community.  

Reading Olympics

Advisor: Mrs. Sowers
Meets: Twice a month (one time after school and one time during lunch) during the entire school year
Any fees other than district Activity Fee? Possible contribution to team t-shirts for competition
Description: Students in Reading Olympics study a pre-determined book list of 25+ books throughout the year. Then, in May, we compete in a quiz bowl-type of three-round competition against teams from all around the county.

Science Olympiad

Advisor: Mrs. Powell & Mrs. Hess
Meets: After school from October through March

Description: The ETJH Science Olympiad team is open to any junior high student interested in learning more about different areas of science. Team members will meet after school on a rotating schedule with each of the coaches to prepare for the competition events. Some work can also be done independently outside of school. There are 23 different events included in the Science Olympiad competition each year covering all science disciplines from biology and the nature of genetics, to earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering and also technology. The team format encourages a hands-on collaborative atmosphere.

Ski & Snowboard Club

Advisors: Greg Hunsberger (610-223-4436) and Jim Wanser (610-914-4098)
Meets: Wednesday evenings in January and February
Any fees other than district Activity Fee? $229 for season lift ticket at Blue Mountain and $140 for transportation fee. If renting equipment, a season ticket is $279
Description: The Exeter Snow Eagles welcomes all levels of skiers and snowboarders from grades 7th through 12th. Lessons are very reasonable and encouraged for beginners. Several of our chaperones will be returning from last season and have years of experience with the Ski Club. Our chaperones are on the buses, on the slopes and in the lodge at every outing. The Ski Club makes five trips to the Blue Mountain Ski area. Please get your  applications in as soon as possible. Completed forms may be turned into the Junior and Senior High offices. All communications regarding Ski Club will be sent via Remind text. Please text @exeters to 81010 to be added to the group messaging system.

Spelling Bee

Advisors: Mrs. Larson
Meets: After school during the months prior to the Bee
Any fees other than district Activity Fee? No
Description: Students are selected at both the Junior High and Reiffton to participate in a building-level Spelling Bee. These students spend time after school preparing for the Bee. The champion at each building moves to the next level of competition, which is a regional Bee.

Stage Crew

Advisor: Mrs. Crotty
Meets: Variable; depends upon need.
Any fees other than district Activity Fee? No
Description: Stage Crew does not meet with students regularly. Instead, I am available to set the stage for every activity and presentation that takes place in the auditorium.  In addition for every concert, I oversee a different group of students to change set-ups between performing ensembles. For the musical, I organize another group of students to participate with lighting, sound, and stage.

Student Council

Advisor: Mr. Zalno
Meets: At least once a month.

Description: Student Council acts as a group of representatives for the students. The goals of the Student Council are to make ETJH a more fulfilling experience for all students, promote school spirit, and help out the community. 

In order to obtain our goals, we organize events throughout the school year including, but not limited to: charity events, classroom door decorating contests, food drives, game nights, how-many-in-the-jar contests, special functions, spirit days, snow cones at Field Day, valentines to all students, and whatever else comes up during the school year.

We generally meet 1-2 times per month (as-needed basis). Meetings are anywhere from a half hour to an hour. We'll meet in room 224 with Mr. Zalno.

Yearbook

Advisor: Mrs. Lopez
Meets: Several times a year after school
Any fees other than district Activity Fee? No
Description: Yearbook club chooses the yearbook cover and assists in the proofing and editing of the ETJH yearbook.
