Safety is the guiding factor behind every decision that we make. Our department developed a comprehensive student safety program, which is tailored specifically to different grade levels that covers school bus stop safety, bus behavior, emergency situations and safety drills.
Additionally, our drivers undergo training well above minimum standards. New drivers receive a minimum of 14 hours of classroom training and a minimum of 6 hours of one-on-one, in-bus training. Transportation employees must attend three in-service trainings during the calendar school year and are required to become familiar with their route well before the school year begins. All drivers go through a comprehensive retraining program, and must pass a knowledge and driving skills test every four years. Transportation employees must also receive mandatory reporter training; must receive their state police, child abuse and FBI fingerprint clearances; and have their driver's license record pulled yearly.
