What if my child becomes sick at school?
The school nurse takes care of students' injuries and sudden illnesses that occur in school. Sports injuries during in-season school sports should be cared for by the athletic trainer. Injuries and illnesses that occur outside of school hours should be cared for by the student's own health care provider.
When a student becomes ill during the school day, the student should report to the school nurse. If a student meets the criteria set forth by the school nurse and/or Department of Health, the student will be excused to leave school and his/her parents will be contacted. Students will remain at school until contact can be made unless it is an emergency. The student can only be released to parents, guardians and emergency contacts as listed in Skyward. Students are unable to dismiss themselves without permission and cannot leave the building without consent from the school nurse; otherwise, the student's departure may be considered an unexcused absence.
