“Start with Hello!” week empowered Reiffton students to celebrate kindness

September 25, 2021

Hola! Guten Tag! Bonjour! Hello! Reiffton students spent last week learning lots of different ways to say "hello!" as part of "Start with Hello!" week. An initiative of the Sandy Hook Promise, thousands of schools across the country participated in their own "Start with Hello" activities, which were meant to teach students how to recognize the signs of loneliness and isolation in their classmates. Through fun and meaningful activities, Physical Education teacher Jen Dorta planned a school-wide, spirit-themed week that enabled students to learn how to better connect and unite with their classmates while focusing on the program's three steps: "See Someone Alone," "Reach out and Help," and "Start With Hello."

Check out all of the ways that Reiffton students learned to "Start with Hello" in the video below, as well as what other fun activities Mrs. Dorta planned last week to help our students recognize and celebrate their kindness!

Featuring messages such as "Be kind," "Never give up," "Ready to learn everything," and "Embrace your awesome," Jacksonwald students and staff celebrated their first Literacy Spirit Day last Friday as they were asked to "wear a shirt with words." Throughout the school, student tees highlighted messages of kindness, friendship and positivity. "At Jacksonwald, we love to celebrate our Spirit Days by bringing an element of fun into our learning," said Jacksonwald's principal, Dr. Renee Mosser. "Students not only had fun reading each other's shirts, but they were uplifted by the positive messages, too!"

Students honor the fallen and the heroes of 9/11

September 14, 2021

"For your parents, your teachers, and myself, each of us knows exactly where we were when we heard that news. The days that unfolded after that event brought great uncertainty. Our nation grieved and, as tragedy often does, the attacks brought us closer as a country."

Last Friday, High School Principal Mr. Tom Campbell delivered these remarks to a hushed crowd in Don Thomas Stadium, where students, teachers and local first responders gathered to remember the victims of 9/11. During the ceremony, Social Studies teacher Mr. Ziegler recounted learning of the terrorist attacks while in high school and how the days afterwards inspired him to serve in the Army following graduation. Exeter Police Chief Wendell Morris then presented Officer Rocco DeCamillo with a flag to honor his three combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Throughout the morning's ceremony, Exeter musicians provided a moving and patriotic background with the concert choir singing the national anthem, Emily Holliday playing a violin solo and the marching band performing "God Bless America."

At the end of the ceremony, Mr. Campbell reminded students to talk to their parents and teachers to gain a better understanding of the day's significance and be appreciative of the sacrifices that others have made on our behalf.
