In addition to coordinating state-mandated physical and dental exams for students in select grades, school nurses conduct the other state-mandated health screenings that are below. Results from these screenings can be found in Skyward. Please click HERE for directions on how to view these results.
Height, Weight and BMI: All students are measured for height and weight as part of the school health growth screening program. A Body Mass Index (BMI) for age percentile is also calculated, which is used as a guideline to help assess whether a student might be overweight or underweight.
Vision: All students receive a vision screening every year. If a student does not pass the screening, a referral form will be sent home. Please have the form completed by an eye care specialist and return it to the student's school nurse within 30 days. This is only a screening and should not take the place of a complete vision exam.
Hearing: Screening is done on all students in grades K-3 as well as students in grade 7 and 11. If a student does not pass the screening, a referral form will be sent home. Please have the form completed by a hearing specialist within 30 days and return it to the student's school nurse. This is only a screening and should not take the place of a complete hearing exam.
Scoliosis: Screening is done on students in grades 6 and 7. If a student does not pass the screening, a referral form will be sent home. Please have the form completed by the student's health care provider and return to the school nurse.
