senior volunteer tax rebate program flyer

Senior volunteer tax credit programs have been shown to provide necessary supports for academic programs while reducing the burden of property taxes on senior citizens who participate in such programs. The positive contributions of senior volunteers and their teamwork with teachers and students can result in a rewarding experience for all.

Senior citizens who reside within the Exeter Township School District are welcome to volunteer during the school year to receive a property tax rebate of $599. Applications open annually on July 1st for those who are at least 60 years old.

To apply, please complete the following:

  • A Senior Volunteer Application, which is available at the Exeter Township School District Administration Building
  • Act 34 Criminal History Clearance
  • Act 151 Child Abuse Clearance
  • Act 114 FBI Federal Criminal History Report, including fingerprinting at a registered facility

All participants in the tax rebate program shall comply with Policy #916 and the guidelines set forth for other volunteers in the district, including, but not limited to, background check certifications, reports, training and confidentiality requirements. Additionally:

  • The property tax rebate may not exceed the total amount of real property taxes that are owed.
  • Only one participant per household shall be permitted in the program per fiscal year.
  • The Board of School Directors reserves the right to suspend or discontinue the program at any time; however, participants who have earned real property tax credits shall be entitled to use them in accordance with this policy.

FAQ

How many hours must I volunteer to receive a rebate?

Senior citizens must complete 70 hours of volunteer work per school year to receive the rebate of $599. Please note that senior citizens who are employed by the district--whether full time, part time or per diem--are not eligible for this program.

What type of work is available for a volunteer?

Volunteers are eligible to help the district as needed. Common volunteer tasks are:

  • Shelving library books
  • Assisting students with lunches
  • Making copies
  • Gardening, weeding, etc.

The district will attempt to match the applicant’s skills and preferences with our needs.

When will I receive the rebate?

The district will calculate a volunteer’s hours at the end of the fiscal year (June 30th) for Superintendent approval. The rebate will then need to be presented and approved by the Board of School Directors. The rebate check will be issued to you following those approvals.
